Swine Flu

Swine influenza (also called swine flu, hog flu,pig flu, pork flu, sausage flu and bacon flu) refers to influenza caused by those strains of influenza virus, called swine influenza virus (SIV), that usually infect pigs.[2] Swine influenza is common in pigs in the midwestern United States (and occasionally in other states), Mexico, Canada, South America, Europe (including the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Italy), Kenya, Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan and other parts of eastern Asia.[2]
Transmission of swine influenza virus from pigs to humans is not common and properly cooked pork poses no risk of infection. When transmitted, the virus does not always cause human influenza and often the only sign of infection is the presence of antibodies in the blood, detectable only by laboratory tests. When transmission results in influenza in a human, it is called zoonotic swine flu. People who work with pigs, especially people with intense exposures, are at risk of catching swine flu. However, only about fifty such transmissions have been recorded since the mid-20th century, when identification of influenza subtypes became possible. Rarely, these strains of swine flu can pass from human to human. In humans, the symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of influenza and of influenza-like illness in general, namely chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness and general discomfort.
The 2009 flu outbreak in humans, known as "swine flu", is due to a new strain of influenza A virus subtype H1N1 that contained genes most closely related to swine influenza.[3] The origin of this new strain is unknown. However, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) reports that this strain has not been isolated in pigs.[4] This strain can be transmitted from human to human,[5] and causes the normal symptoms of influenza.[6]
Pigs can become infected with human influenza, and this appears to have happened during the 1918 flu pandemic and the 2009 flu outbreak.

Hi 4 Humility,

Someone shared with me this song many years ago and I find it meaningful. Listen to the song and post a comment on the following:
(1) Do you think it's a sad or a happy song? Why?
(2) What do you think "Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide" mean?

If you need help in finding the meaning to the difficult words, you can make use of www.dictionary.com to help you.

Lyrics to "Rainbow Connection"

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it.
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard
and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it.
Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing
and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.

Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors.
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection.
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Jaws in trouble

(LRD 17/3 - pg 8)

Sharks have been known to be dangerous animals. They have attacked and killed men. However, this is likely due to sharks mistaking men for food (seals).

Sharks are now getting extinct as fishermen are cutting off their fins for our delicious sharks fin soup. 14 out of 39 students in 4 Humility love sharks fin soup (including the teacher). Yum yum.... Nowadays, 4 Humility pupils (including the teacher) do not eat sharks fin soup anymore as they are animal lovers and will not harm any sharks.

We need to protect our animals from getting extinct. Please eat the mock sharks fin. We would rather forgo our love for good food.
